IMPAC Young Writers Awards
A Welcome Message from the Founder of the IMPAC Young Writers Awards.
Welcome Young Writers of the World to the IMPAC Young Writers Website.
It is in this age of increasing dependence on technology that we are
bringing the art of writing back to the forefront through these awards.
Around the world many countries have begun to recognize that English is
certainly becoming the primary language of business. Yes we still
conduct business in our native countries in the language of our
ancestors, however we see that language and the communication around the
world is being conducted more and more in English.
To help countries jump start this, IMPAC® working with local
organizations has with the approval of the Board of "The International
IMPAC Dublin Literary Award", commenced young writer awards in a number
of countries and regions ; beginning with the state of Connecticut in
the USA, Thailand, Malaysia, Finland and Czech Republic.
We recognize that for a great many people English is a second if not
third language that they may use. So to improve the communication
skills of the next generation, the IMPAC Young Writers Award is
conducted as a local, regional and national competition. Each country
draws up a set of guidelines which are developed locally. Once those
rules and guidelines are in place the competition is held in the early
part of each year. The competition is generally an essay on a single
subject chosen locally with no more than 1500 written words on that
subject.
The winners are recognised locally and the major prize winner for that
country will travel to the City of Dublin in Ireland, to attend the
International IMPAC Dublin Literary Award in June.
I will look forward to meeting the new writers from around the world as
I attend these local country awards, and also while attending the
International Award in Dublin.
